What Do I Need to Know About Patron

Patron has always been a dominating force in the tequila market, as it offers drinkers a premium taste that stands above the rest. This is especially true for the Roca line from Patron. What makes it so special you ask?

First and foremost, it’s important that you understand that real, quality tequila is made from 100% blue agave. This is the main ingredient in tequila and the authenticity of the process in which it’s distilled is of the utmost importance when it comes to quality. Other tequilas that are not made from blue agave are m

ixed with other alcohols, which is what creates a terrible hangover the next day.

What Makes Patron Stand Out?

The way Patron distills tequila is a tried and true practice. The blue agave used in Patron is crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone, Tahona wheel for 79 hours. This is a practice that is centuries old, with the first tequila having been produced in the 16th century. Another important aspect of tequila is that it must be produced in the region of Jalisco in order to be considered authentic.

Patron not only offers a high-quality tequila on the sweeter side and easy to mix, but they also offer an even better line of fine tequila known as Roca Patron. Not only is the Roca line an artisanal tequila, it’s stronger as well, ringing in at 44 percent ABV versus the 40 percent in their original line.

Here’s what you need to know about each of the styles of tequila you will enjoy at our exclusive tequila tasting.

Roca Patron Silver

Before being crushed by two-ton volcanic rock Thona wheels, the Weber Blue Agave used is baked in small brick ovens for 79 hours.

The appearance of this tequila is crystal clear (Silver)

On the nose of this tequila, you’ll gather strong notes of citrus.

Roca Patron Silver offers sweets and earthy notes on the palate as well as black pepper and cooked agave and citrus and has a great and complex finish.

Roca Patron Reposado

Using the same artisanal process, this tequila is completed with a 43 percent ABV and is slightly more complex that it’s silver sister, presenting notes of oak. Vanilla, ginger, and caramel. This tequila is also unique because of the aging process, sitting in American Bourbon barrels to give it those oaky and vanilla flavors.

The reposado offers a beautiful light straw yellow color and is completely transparent.

On the nose, you will smell vanilla, American oak and citrus notes as well.

On the palate, you’ll be able to taste smooth and sweet notes of ginger and caramel with a not balance of mushroom to round out the sweetness and finishes out with a complex and long-lasting flavor.

Roca Patron Añejo

Last but certainly not least, we’re going to finish with the añejo tequila from Roca Patron. Similar to the silver and reposado tequilas, one of the biggest differences in this process is that it is aged much longer, sitting in American Bourbon barrels for 14 months.

The Roca Añejo offers a beautiful medium gold color that is transparent and almost glows like a sunset.

On the nose, you’ll gather hints of vanilla, grapefruit and other spices.

On the palate, you’ll taste more citrus notes, light ginger, black pepper and oak with a velvety smooth finish.
